Seasons

Come close to God, and He will come close to you.” James 4:8

Very recently, I went through a several month dry spell. From about the end of March until “Blast Move-up Day” I couldn’t feel God no matter how hard I tried. The longer it drew on, the closer I came to bursting out of my skin. The only good days I had zoomed past like a dream, and were forgotten just as quickly. And just when I thought I couldn’t take it anymore, it got worse. And worse. And even worse. Finally, I reached a point where I felt absolutely nothing. I wouldn’t have known a 50-foot pole if it pierced through my skull.

All of a sudden, it was over. I had been going three days on 9 hours of sleep and had yet another early morning. But I woke up and went to church and did my thing. During our impromptu devotional time, I spewed to God about this hard time and felt instant peace. Nothing about that day or night was perfect. But as I stood at the front of the room after service, I whispered to myself, “This is right. This is how it should be.”

The point of my story is this: Christianity has seasons just like the earth. The drier your life feels and the further you feel from God, the more important it becomes to press into Him and learn about Him. I spent hours some nights looking up scriptures on strength and perseverance. I spent even more time praying that it would end.

Dry, cold seasons are never fun and never easy. But at the end of your faithfulness, God is still there, waiting for you. And the fresh, new, easy, peaceful seasons make the hard times worth the wait. If you never lose sight of the finish line, you’ll reach it sooner than you think.

So it is with You
And how You make me new
With every season’s change
And so it will be
As You are re-creating me
Summer, autumn, winter, spring
