Week 8: What Christmas is Really All About
Recap of Last Week: Are You a Leader or a Follower?
- If you have influence over anyone, you’re a leader.
Purpose: To help students recognize the purpose of Christmas.
Series Scripture: “You will conceive and give birth to a son and name Him Jesus. He will be very grate and be called the son of God . . . He will reign and His Kingdom will never end.” –Luke 1:32-33
Main Ideas:
- 1. Jesus is the greatest gift we’ll ever receive.
- 2. Jesus purpose for coming was to make man right with God. So we could have a relationship with Him.
- 3. Because of Jesus, we’re able to live a life that’s truly life.
Scripture:
- Romans 3:22-23 We are made right by God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true to everyone who believes, no matter what. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
- Romans 6:23 – The wages of sin is death – but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ.
- John 10:10 – “I came so that they may have life and have it in abundance.”
Summary:
- Christmas is about celebrating the love of God. He loved us so much he sent his Son to die for us so we could have a relationship with Him. (John 3:16)
- All too often we focus on what we can get during Christmas, when God wants us to follow His example and to focus on what we can give.
- We often show how grateful we are for gifts people give us, but rarely do we express thanksgiving to God for the greatest gift He’s ever given us.
- A gift that has to be earned ceases to be a gift. God gave us Jesus with no strings attached . . . His grace is unbelievable!
Creative Element/Challenge (Goal: To enable students to take initiative and lead something!)
- Break the Students into Groups: Have them come up with a creative way to tell people what the purpose of Christmas is and why Jesus came. Have them present it to the group.
- Challenge: Share the purpose of Christmas with a friend who might not know it this week.
