Week 1: Focus on the Absolutes
Purpose: To get students to be passionate about lost students in their schools, neighborhoods, and communities.
Main Ideas:
- We need to focus on what we have in common (Absolutes – Jesus is Lord) instead of trying to shove doctrine down peoples throat
- Without prayer, evangelism won’t work
- We need to stop talking about making a difference and start making a difference
- Is what I’m doing making a difference in someone else’s eternity?
- Are you appealing to non Christians?
- The world is looking for purpose
Scripture:
- Proverbs 3:27 – Don’t withhold good from others when it’s in your
Questions:
- Are we affecting people outside of our group?
- What are some practical ways we can add value to someone’s life?
- How can you change someone’s life by encouraging them? With your money? With your talents?
- Do you find yourself trying to jam opinions down people’s throats or giving them Jesus?
Things to Remember:
- Summer Camp this Friday – Registration at 6:15 a.m.
Chapter Recaps
Are we praying for our cities, our schools, our unsaved friends, unsaved family?
Without prayer – evangelism won’t work
Are people outside of our groups being affected?
If we’re talking about Jesus – it will result in a measurable societal shift… You’ll be able to see the difference in your schools, work places, neighborhoods, etc.
Primary Purpose: Making it Hard for People to go to Hell From Your City
Chapter 4 -Focus on the Absolutes of Scripture
Absolutes – Unchanging Foundations of Faith
Interpretation – An explanation and application of the scripture.
Deductions – looking at several passages of scripture and drawing conclusions
Subjective Opinions, Personal Preferences, Cultural Norms, Feelings – personal preferences, opinons
Outside the walls of the church we must focus on the Absolutes of Scripture when taking God into the world…
Don’t focus on this denomination and that… Focus on Jesus Christ as Lord…
Love Always Wins…
Chapter 5 – Promoting the Ministry of Christ and His Word Above Our Own Ministry or Method
As Christians we no longer have the luxury of spending time talking about the differences between us. We’re losing our cities.
Question: Is what I’m doing really something that will make a difference in someone else’s eternal destiny?
Absolute: Jesus helps you live through all the circumstances of life.
Are we appealing to non-christians?
Comparison encourages Christians to go from one church to another…
Being proactive brings the gospel to unsaved people.
The world isn’t looking for a practical, relevant Bible teaching… they’re looking for purpose in their lives, answers to their problems at work and ways to keep their families together.
Jesus is the answer… not me, not a church building, or a youth group.
